Observations of the season
I want to
talk about the season, especially what I have observed so far within it. Let’s
take a look at spring, where I am living at.
The cute
things about spring are the little ducklings that hatch. Seeing momma duck with
multiple little ones is the cutest thing in the whole wide world. I have also
seen a completely new duck at a pond near me. There used to be two, but now
there is only one left ☹ I hope the other one just decided to live
somewhere else. Please let me believe this. We also have Doug-Doug, a Muscovy duck
that likes to come by for some oats. He waits every morning around the time I
let my dog out back 😊 I have noticed there is also a
little squirrel who waits in the tree for oat time. He scuttles down once I am
back inside and goes to eat some oats with Doug-Doug. I still have to name the
squirrel.
Another
thing I have noticed that is not so awesome is the heat. All throughout May, we
have had high temperatures and often seen 90F and even higher. We are in a severe
drought, and the pond we have behind our backyard is only half filled. And I don’t
mean depth-wise, I mean length-wise. There are now weeds growing in the half
that no longer has water. We are under watering restrictions as well, and my
grass is crispy. Doesn’t help that my neighbor sprayed weed and grass killer
onto my yard. Which now has dead spots from it. I can only imagine how hot the summer will be.
What have you guys noticed this season? Any animals that migrated to where you live? Rare flowers blooming? Let me know in the comments.
