Antidote for Bad Mood
How can we counter bad mood? Well, it all depends on what is
causing the bad mood, sometimes separating ourselves from the cause can already
help with the mood, but if you can’t do that what can you do to lift your
spirits?
One thing that helps me is to do something I love to do,
whether it is watching movies, YouTube or even drawing and sketching. Usually
while having a movie or YouTube in the background. That seems to always lift my
spirits. You can take inspiration from your mood and turn it into a drawing
almost as if you were to magically transfer the mood to the paper.
This also applies to writing; you can channel the mood into
a story and write it out. Let your emotions flow and see what you can come up
with.
Taking a walk helps so much, you can walk fast or even run
when you are angry, channel that bad mood and use it to your advantage to power
walk. Or you can take a nice scenic stroll to change your perspective and therefore
your mood as well. Looking at the trees, the flowers, literally stop, to smell
the roses! Remind yourself that the bad mood will pass and there are things to
be grateful for.
Listen to some fun uplifting music! Good music can always
cheer one up. When you listen to music you can even dance, dance it out. Listen
to music that makes you feel good. The genre for this will be different for
everyone.
Reach out to a friend or family member. Sometimes talking it
out helps incredibly much. It’s better to get things off your chest rather than
to bottle it all up. Because eventually we will have bottled up so much that it
feels like we are going to explode and that is never a good feeling.
Maybe you can even do something nice for someone else to see
if that will help your mood. Take a friend out for some coffee, have a chit
chat, connect with them. Very much like the previous point.
If your bad mood has persisted for a while try getting more
sleep, maybe you aren’t getting enough sleep and that causes you to be in a bad
mood, it sometimes happens to me. Another thing that also often happens is when
we eat too much take out and not the healthy kind, all the fast food always
turns my mood a little sour almost as if my body is rebelling and saying “feed
me something healthy” ha ha
One last point is mindfulness. Take the time to spend with
yourself, maybe write in your journal or meditate and focus on your breathing. Focus
on the present and don’t dwell on the past or the cause of your bad mood.
Ground yourself and take deep breaths.
I know a lot of these are easier said than done, it is easy to be stuck in a bad mood, thinking there is no way out. However, give some of these a shot and see if they help you climb out of the funk. 😊
