Quotes that resonate with me

Today I want to talk to you all about quotes. Especially quotes that I like a lot. For today, I shall focus on some JRR Tolkien quotes; they are probably on my mind because I did a rewatch of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Gosh, I love them so much, and it is always a delight to watch them. Of course, it has to be the Extended Editions!

It's the job that's never started that takes longest to finish.”

This quote hits home a little bit. I think we all get lost in the worry of starting something we may not wish to do, but it drags on so long that it takes us longer to actually start it. The same goes for chores, really. We don’t want to do them, but then it takes forever to finish because we took forever to start it. If we just do it, it would be over quicker. I think this quote can be applied to so many things and holds true.

Another quote that I love is:

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”

I honestly think I don’t need to explain much to this quote. Somewhere, we lost what it means to live. Everything is all about money/gold now. Where did the joy go? I know we need money to live, but still. It’s more that you live to work than you work to live. Gold runs the world in many places nowadays. Everyone is hungry for it, but I feel we forgot what fun is. It is so much deeper than I can write here right now, but I think you all get the gist of what this quote can mean and be applied to. People have become Smaug.

Another famous quote and the last for this post is this one:

“Not all those who wander are lost.”

In life, we are often wandering, whether it is from hobby to hobby, from job to job, or from city to city. I believe that in our wandering, we are trying to find our place in life. Where we can be who we are without having to change for anyone, where we can be accepted exactly for who we are.

I love Tolkien's quotes. I think I have watched the movies a hundred times. I should really do a reread of the books; it has been way too long.

What are your favorite quotes, from Tolkien or from others? Leave them in the comments. I would love to read them.
