Spring cleaning your brain
We always talk about spring cleaning our homes, but do you ever hear someone talk about spring cleaning your brain? Yes, that is actually possible, but how do we do that? Well, let’s explore that together.
Journaling and brain dumping
Trying to get all that stuff that keeps you up at night out of your brain and onto paper can really help declutter your brain. I am trying so hard to journal, but it is really hard for me for some reason. I will keep at it and maybe rather perform a brain dump instead of trying to put it all into neatly written sentences. Maybe my way of journaling simply looks different.
Meditation and Yoga
Meditation and Yoga can really calm the mind. I love yoga and always feel so much better afterwards. Now meditation I have a hard time with, my brain just doesn’t want to stop going, the thoughts just keep going and going. I just want it to stop for a little while, ha ha I really need to declutter my brain
Positivity
While positivity can’t cure everything, letting go of the negative self-talk and replacing it with positive affirmations can change the whole mood and mindset. I am guilty of the negative self-talk, and I need to practice on expelling it and replacing it with giving myself some compliments and self-compassion.
Self Care
Another way to help your mind is to get enough sleep, eat enough, drink enough, and simply take care of yourself. Have that long bath, take that nap. It doesn’t hurt. To keep your mind healthy, you also need to keep your body healthy. It all works together. Do some of the hobbies that you have put aside, do something that is fun for you, and you will thank yourself later.
Space Decluttering
Another important part is to actually spring clean and declutter. I have noticed that when my desk gets cluttered, I have a hard time concentrating. I often go through my desk and change it up to keep it different and “fresh”. Let go of things you haven’t used in years, and that are just taking up space. It’s okay to let go of things.
This is definitely something that is a work in progress and will take time. It’s not as easy as physical spring cleaning; brain spring cleaning takes time. It might need a couple of tries before it fully works. I honestly think spring cleaning your brain is an ongoing thing. Doing it for one day won’t change anything. This is something that needs to be mindfully practiced for it to take full effect. I think I want to give it a go this year and see how different I feel at the end of the year. Would definitely be interesting to see :)
