Favorite Halloween Memories

Let’s talk about favorite memories of Halloween. Let’s begin with my childhood 😊

Halloween wasn’t very big when I was growing up. I heard about it in magazines and on TV, but we didn’t really have Halloween parties or trick-or-treating; that just wasn’t a thing we did in Germany. However, since I had a massive love for Halloween, my parents let me have a Halloween party, and we went around the neighborhood trick-or-treating. My mom would come up with these Halloween foods that you do here in the US, like hot dogs as fingers and Jello and other bits as brain matter. My mom really got into it and let me decorate the whole apartment. I was literally obsessed with Halloween, and she fueled my obsession by letting me buy so many decorations, ha ha I did that for a few years in a row, and slowly but surely, more kids dressed up on Halloween, and more parties were held. Absolutely not saying I pioneered Halloween in my small town, but it was just fun to see the change. That is certainly my favorite childhood memory of Halloween.

Growing up, getting married, and having a kid turned into making new memories of Halloween. One of my favorite ones has to be the first year my daughter was able to go trick-or-treating. She was 1 year old, dressed up as a little witch, and off we went walking around our neighborhood with her little pumpkin bucket. Of course, she couldn’t say “Trick or Treat” yet, so I did it for her, and people did give her candy. 😊 At every house, we said “Trick or Treat”, held out the bucket, and thanked the people giving us candy. She had so much fun, but of course, I didn’t bring the stroller because I wanted to be agile, ha ha. That certainly was the wrong thing to d,o as I carried her for most of our neighborhood walk, her little feet simply couldn’t walk that far. To my surprise, she wasn’t really afraid of the costumes either, which was definitely good. We came home exhausted. But I still look at the picture I have left from that night and am just in awe at how cute she looked as that tiny little witch in her little witch hat.

Memories are just so magical; they can put you right back into that moment as if no time has passed. But they can also provoke emotions that you thought you had stuffed away. I hold on to memories for dear life ha ha. Let’s not end this on a sad note; let’s keep the happy memories going. What are your favorite Halloween memories? Let me know in the comments.
