Who do I miss during the holiday season

The holiday season is all about family, whether you were born into it or you chose one, but sometimes, if not even a lot of times, there are people we miss during this season. Today I want to tell you all who I miss during this time of year.

If you don’t know, I was born and raised in Germany. I left Germany in 2007 and lived in Korea for a year, and then moved to the US, where I have been ever since.

The last time I was home was in 2013, and for many reasons, I haven't been able to visit since. My family was last here in 2019. Of course, we text every day, send voice messages, and call, but it's just different when it is not face-to-face, in person. I miss them so much, and my niece is now 1 1/2 years old. Not having seen her yet is really hard. All in all, I just miss my family. Sometimes I do feel pulled in both directions, and it's not easy. I know there are plenty of others who do the same and visit their families often, and have been able to keep a better balance between their two homes than me.I hope that I will get to that point in the future.

But besides them, I also miss the people who have left this earth and won't be with us during Christmas. I still miss my mother, and this year will be the 23rd Christmas without her, yes, I am counting. This will also be the first Christmas without my Grandpa, so I know this will be a hard year for my dad as this will be his first Christmas without either of his parents.

This season is so beautiful, but it can also be filled with melancholy. This is why I think we need to enjoy and cherish each and every moment. I try to make loads of memories with my daughter and make Christmas as magical as possible. Not only for her, but a little bit for myself, simply because I just am so homesick during this time of year.

How are you guys faring this year? Is there someone you will miss this year? Leave a comment down below, and let's have a chat.
