My Most Priced Possession

 

Today I want to talk about my most priced possession. Some may think that it is something expensive or an autograph from a star but no. My priced possession is much simpler yet means the world to me and I was recently reunited with it. Even though I had already given up hope of getting it back.

My most priced possession is my mother’s measuring tape. 

Yep, very simple and nothing that would make anyone scream wow. However, to me it is so important.

My mother passed away when I was 13 years old. She was a seamstress and there are many memories of her working on things late at night. Memories of her showing me how to sew and be part of some projects as well. After she passed there were a few things that I saved from getting tossed by my grandma and aunt, who came to clean up the house the day she passed away. Trust me, it boggles my mind to this day as to why they did that but it happened. One of those things that I held onto was her measuring tape.

I think I latched onto it because I knew how much she used it and how often she would walk around the house wearing it around her neck like a scarf.  To me that measuring tape holds part of her essence. Is it weird?? Maybe but to me it doesn’t matter because it was my mom’s and she was the most important person in the world to me. So to me that measuring tape is my most priced possession.
