What does Summer taste like?

 

Oh, the taste of summer! When thinking about summer do memories come flashing back to you? Do you have smells that remind you of summer? But what about tastes? Today I want to talk about what summer tastes like to me.

As I thought more about this, I realized that a lot of these memories and taste memories come from my childhood, I think because it was one of my most cherished times and memories. Carefree, filled with fun and lots of laughter. My parents were great at letting us be kids. More on that in a future post!

What does summer taste like? To me Summer tastes like watermelon, Popsicles, Iced Tea, and BBQ!

But why, you may wonder. Well, when I was a kid summer was when watermelons were in season, so we always got big watermelons and had them in summer. I even have a scar related to watermelons ha ha to me that is simply the taste of summer.

Popsicles of course because the best treat in the heat is something to cool you off! And for us as kids that were popsicles and what we called water ice, you can get them here in the US too, but I don’t know the name it comes in these plastic “sleeves” and it’s just flavored water with coloring. So many memories come flooding back thinking about these. Sitting in a yard chair on our balcony under the umbrella when the sun was beating down on it, in 36-degree heat Celsius.

Iced tea can’t be missing in summer either! Some sweet tea often with lemon flavor in a nice glass with ice cubes, just perfect.

In summer we used to have a lot of BBQs whether that was on our electric grill on our balcony or on the coal grill in my grandpa’s garden. We always had BBQs in summer. When we had them in my grandpa’s garden it was always a family affair. My aunt, uncle, and cousin would also join us, and we would set up our little pool and play in it or chase each other with water guns. I would swing on the swing for hours. Man, these are so many wonderful memories.
